Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been found to be one of the most effective evidence-based treatments for a variety of depressive and anxiety disorders. This workshop will focus on how to apply CBT methods with couples in pre-marital, marital, and committed non-marital relationships. As nearly all relationships experience periods of distress, therapists will learn the latest CBT methods for treating the dysfunctional and destructive emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, including infidelity.

This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to assist people with the emotional aftermath of a disaster. It describes the integrated emergency response and recovery in a disaster, the characteristics of disasters and terrorism, and the psychological respones and appropriate interventions, The course addresses the impact on children, adults, persons with special considerations and those who may be at higher risk.
Besides concentrationg on the needs of citizens, the course communicates the self-care that needs to be taken by disaster workers. The different course components provide exercises throughout the day so that participants can assess needs and practice the skills they are learning.

Social workers have an important responsibilty to maintain confidentiality of their relationship with their clients on a multitude of levels: in the public, within the office, or between other agencies. This responsibility is not absolute or exclusive within professional standards and the law for social workers. It can often place the social worker in a challenging ethical dilemma when making the descision to breach this condifence. The focus of this workshop is to guide the participants through the professional code of ethics and state licensure law to identify ethical standards and practices to assist with ethical dilemma resolution.

This workshop with discuss the myriad of ethical conflicts and dilemmas professionals face when working with older adults. The ethical issues are not limited to the older adult, but also include family members, service agencies, governmental entities, and third party reimbursement resources. For professionals who work with older adults, they often must confront competing ethical obligations while advocating for the older individual. This workshop will discuss the most common ethical issues facing older adults including: self determination, competence, advanced directives, and end of life issues, and provide strategies for ethical decision making.
