BSW Applications for Missouri
Coming-January 2010
In 2010, NASW-Missouri Chapter will work with school districts to recognize the expertise of school social workers through special certification and certificate of satisfactory completion. We will offer a professional practice area designation through the association for school social workers
in Missouri who have met the appropriate continuing education, examination, licensure, and experience requirements in conjunction with our national and chapter office. If you are interested in further information, please contact the chapter office at 573.635.6965 or send us an e-mail.

NASW:Call for 2011 DA Policy Reviewers
The 2011 Delegate Assembly is just around the corner and the association has several policy statements from Social Work Speaks that have not been updated since 2002.  We are currently seeking social workers with practice experience and knowledge willing and interested in assisting the association with reviewing and updating the policies below.  These Policy Statements become the foundation for NASW to pursue advocacy and social change for our profession and clients.  It is extremely critical that we update these Policies to better serve our association, profession and clients.  The Delegate Assembly Committee has set up a policy writing and review guideline to assist social workers interested in getting involved with this process.
The following Policies are slated to be reviewed and updated
Adolescent Health
Capital Punishment and the Death Penalty
Community Development
Confidentiality and Information Utilization
Crime Victim Assistance
Employee Assistance
Family Violence
Foster Care and Adoption
Hospice Care
Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
Mental Health
Parental Kidnapping
Peace and Social Justice
Rural Social Work
School Violence
Social Service
Sovereignty and Health of Indigenous Peoples
Voter Participation
If you have expertise in any of the above areas and would like to get involved, we would be greatly appreciative.  The time commitment would be minimal and would be mostly electronic by e-mail.  Please consider getting involved.  Please contact the chapter office at 800.333.6279 or email at chapter@nasw-mo.org if you are interested in being a 2011 DA Policy Reviewer.  We look forward to having some Missouri members get involved in shaping our profession and association.

Missouri Licensure & Examination Update
LICENSURE RULES:
"The State Committee for Social Worker's board meeting was held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. It was then identified that the new rules to implement the 2007 Licensure Legislation fully will potentially be effective April 1, 2010. They had several comments to respond to from the October 2009, 30-day Public Comment Period at their meeting. Please watch the State Committee's website and ours for notification of the new rules and their date of implementation."

ASWB LICENSE EXAM CHANGES:
At the Association of Social Work Boards' 2009 Delegate Assembly, delegates representing ASWB's member boards voted to increase the fees for the ASWB social work licensing examinations as of January 1, 2010. The fees for bachelors and masters examinations will increase to $230 and the fees for the advanced generalist and clinical examinations will increase to $260. However, they are giving a waiver to any December 2009 undergraduate and graduate from an accredited social work program or a social worker practicing in the field without a license, who is interested in obtaining their Missouri licensure may be able to register and pay for the examination by December 31, 2009 at the current examination rates. They will not be required to take the examination immediately, but will have up to one-year to take the exam. Any social worker or student interested in obtaining the current rate for their exam must register for a Missouri licensure with the State Committee in order to register for the examination with ASWB."
